Kind, Loyal, Gentle, Brave, and Strong
Farewell Chief, You Are in My Heart
Chief was 26 years old and lived the past ten years
with us. When we got him, he was so timid,
he stood with his head in the corner of his stall,
hoping to not be noticed. Soon he realized he was going
to be loved and treated well, and he came out
of his shell. He was a very large guy, standing 18 hands
if measured at the withers. So powerful, but such a gentle
spirit and such a good boy. He was always alpha
in our herd, even over the mares, simply because of
his size. My husband and I have had many fun adventures,
he on Chief and I on my horse, riding all over the
hills and valleys near our home. Chief was a
Tennessee Walker and had an incredibly smooth gait.
He loved going out on the trail and exploring.
Chief came down with laminitis a while back and we
finally had to have him put down today.
My heart is broken. Having to say goodbye was
one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.
But I know I will see him again someday in heaven,
where he is right now, running through
green meadows, eating carrots, and gobbling up as
much of his favorite food, senior feed, as he can.
Here are some photos of Chief and my husband,
through the years.
